qualifications
To serve on the Board of Directors, nominees must meet the following criteria, as required by South Carolina state law and Riverview’s Bylaws:
- South Carolina resident
- Not a current employee of the School, and not the spouse of a current employee
- Not previously removed from the board of another educational institution
- Not convicted of a felony
- Willing and able to commit the time required for Board and committee work
The Board as a whole must maintain at least 50% of its members with a background in K-12 education or business. This is a board-wide requirement, not an individual one, so nominees from a wide range of professional backgrounds are welcome.
WHAt to expect
Board terms are two years, with eligibility to serve up to three consecutive terms. New members complete orientation training in December before their term begins on January 1, 2027.
Board service is a significant commitment. Members attend Board and committee meetings, participate actively in governance and fundraising, and serve as ambassadors for the school in the community. The Board exists to protect and advance Riverview’s mission.
